Thursday Update

Happy Spring! Thank you to everyone who attended the Skating Party. We hope you enjoyed this McKinley tradition. We look forward to tomorrow night's event - McKINGO!

McKingo - Friday, March 22

Doors open at 5:30 pm for dinner. Bingo and raffle baskets start at 6:00 pm. The night ends at 8:30 pm.

McKinley Garden Set to Reopen

Weather provided, the garden is set to open for recess for the season next week (Thursday, March 28th).  There are 11 school-day Thursdays between March 28th and the end of the school year; check your calendar to see when you can join the kids to enjoy the garden they love. No gardening experience necessary- you just need to have a volunteer badge. Please use the links below to sign up. Kindergarten classes rotate visits; each sign-up below notes which K class is scheduled to visit on which day.  

The garden is also looking for current-family committee members to assist with various administrative tasks. Again, no gardening experience necessary, just a willingness to keep the garden running for our students, staff and community to enjoy. Iron Hill 6th Grade Fundraising Event

Please join us at Iron Hill on Tuesday, April 9 and help support the 6th grade class! This will be one of our last fundraisers to help with upcoming 6th grade events. Your support is much appreciated! Thank you!

Odyssey of the Mind Presentation

There will be a half -hour presentation prior to the April PTO meeting on April 4 from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  There will be an OM board member presenting information to interested parents and potential coaches for next year's team (s).  OM involves teams of students using creative problem-solving techniques to solve pre-created scenarios in a fun, competitive environment. Students may participate if chosen.  Student divisions are determined by grade level: Primary Division is grades 1-2, Division 1 is grades 3-5 and Division 2 is grades 6-8. 

Race for Education Fundraiser

Please turn in the "Way to Participate" Forms that were sent home. You can go online to the Get Movin' Crew website at  https://www.getmovinfundraising.com/ to enroll your child today and let the donations begin! There is still time to ask for mailers - in the next couple of weeks, students will be filling them out in school.  We havfe more prizes from local professional sports teams to give out to individual students and classes that raise the most money. If everyone raises at least $50 we can exceed our goal.

A sign-up genius link will be posted soon for those volunteers who can help give out water and monitor students on the day of the event. 

AEF Presents the Harlem Wizards

Tickets are on sale ( https://www.harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets/ ) for the Harlem Wizards Family Fun Event on March 30, 2019 sponsored bt the Abington Education Foundation. Come out and see the world famous Harlem Wizards basketball team as they take on our Abington staff for two games - one at 2:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm.    

LEGO Donations Needed

The Lego Club needs more Legos to supply a second section of the club. Please drop off your donations at the front desk labeled "Lego Club" as soon as possible.

PTO Seeking Non-Profit Status

The PTO is interested in attaining 501(c)3 status and we need someone to help us through the application process.  Once we obtain non-profit status, we will need an accountant during the next school year to help us file PTO taxes.  If you are able to help with either of these tasks, please email mckinleypto@gmail.com.

Service Logs - 2018-19 Log Available

Please encourage you child to complete the service form throughout the year as they are doing community service in school or the community. The updated 2018-19 Service Log is attached below. Please remember Mrs. Hartzell must have them IN HAND by Friday, April 26th, 2019.

PTO Membership

We accept payment of dues anytime during the school year.  You can pay your dues by check (payable to McKinley Elementary PTO) or cash and send them to school with your child in an envelope marked "PTO DUES". You can pay dues electronically if you have a PayPal account. Visit  paypal.me/mckinleypto  Please enter your dues amount (PLEASE DO NOT CHECK THE BOX that indicates the payment is for "goods or services") and include PTO Membership Dues in the notes section, along with your child's name, grade, and teacher.
