Spring arrives next week! We've got busy days ahead! Please stop by the Lost and Found in our lobby when you come in for Parent Conferences - it is full again. McKinley Roller Skating Party - Tuesday, March 19
Please join us at the Roller Skating Party at the Palace Skating Center located at 11586 Roosevelt Blvd in Philadelphia from 2:00pm tp 4:00pm. The cost is $5 per skater plus $3 skate rentals (to be paid there). This is a CASH ONLY event (closed to the public). There is now an ATM available at this site! A snack bar is also available. Parents must provide transportation and supervision for their student(s) for this event.

PTO Meeting

Please note there is no May PTO Meeting - the last meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 6. We are looking for new Board Members for next year. If you are interested in learning more about the positions, please email mckinleypto@gmail.com as soon as possible. Nominations for new members of the PTO Board will be made at the April PTO Meeting in preparation for voting at the June PTO Meeting.
“Introduction to Odyssey of the Mind for Parents” Presentation
There will be a half -hour presentation prior to the April PTO meeting on April 4 from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. There will be an OM board member presenting information to interested parents for next year's team. OM involves teams using creative problem-solving techniques for real-world problems in a fun, competitive environment. Students from Grades 4, 5 and 6 may participate if chosen.
PTO Seeking Non-Profit Status
The PTO is interested in attaining 501(c)3 status and we need someone to help us through the application process. Once we obtain non-profit status, we will need an accountant during the next school year to help us file PTO taxes. Earth Hour - Saturday, March 30
Saturday, March 30 from 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm marks "Earth Hour". Earth Hour "started as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney in 2007. It is now the world's largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature." This year, the Roots & Shoots Club would like to bring awareness of this event to the McKinley Community and encourage families to mark the event in any way possible. Please visit the website www.earthhour.org for more information and consider watching the brief video, which is embedded in the website. Students who participate are invited to forward a photo or drawing of what their families did to observe "Earth Hour" to Mrs. Tanay (jennifertanay@abington.k12.pa.us).
LEGO Donations Needed
The Lego Club needs more Legos to supply a second section of the club. Please drop off your donations at the front desk labeled "Lego Club" as soon as possible.

AEF Present the Harlem Wizards
Tickets are on sale ( https://www.harlemwizards.com/schedule-tickets/ ) for the Harlem Wizards Family Fun Event on March 30, 2019 sponsored bt the Abington Education Foundation. Come out and see the world famous Harlem Wizards basketball team as they take on our Abington staff for two games - one at 2:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm.
Race for Education Fundraiser
Please turn in the "Way to Participate" Forms that were sent home. You can go online to the Get Movin' Crew website at https://www.getmovinfundraising.com/ to enroll your child today and let the donations begin! There is still time to ask for mailers - in the next couple of weeks, students will be filling them out in school. We havfe more prizes from local professional sports teams to give out to individual students and classes that raise the most money. If everyone raises at least $50 we can exceed our goal.
A sign-up genius link will be posted soon for those volunteers who can help give out water and monitor students on the day of the event.

Service Logs - 2018-19 Log Available
Please encourage you child to complete the service form throughout the year as they are doing community service in school or the community. The updated 2018-19 Service Log is attached below. Please remember Mrs. Hartzell must have them IN HAND by Friday, April 26th, 2019.

PTO Membership
We accept payment of dues anytime during the school year. You can pay your dues by check (payable to McKinley Elementary PTO) or cash and send them to school with your child in an envelope marked "PTO DUES". You can pay dues electronically if you have a PayPal account. Visit paypal.me/mckinleypto Please enter your dues amount (PLEASE DO NOT CHECK THE BOX that indicates the payment is for "goods or services") and include PTO Membership Dues in the notes section, along with your child's name, grade, and teacher.
